By Long Island Nets Staff /August 19, 2021
LONG ISLAND (Aug. 19, 2021) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, will host two local player tryouts, presented by HSS, in September, when local basketball hopefuls can vie for the chance to earn an invitation to the team’s training camp in October.
The first tryout will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25, at LIU Brooklyn, followed by a second tryout on Sunday, Sept. 26, at LIU Post. Both will be run by Brooklyn and Long Island Nets basketball operations personnel, who will evaluate participants in a variety of drills and scrimmages.
The LIU Brooklyn tryout on Saturday will be held at the Steinberg Wellness Center at 161 Ashland Pl. in Brooklyn, N.Y., with check-in beginning at 11 a.m. ahead of the noon tryout. The LIU Post tryout on Sunday will take place at the Pratt Recreation Center at 720 Northern Blvd. in Brookville, N.Y., where check-in will start at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. tryout.
Four players from Long Island’s last local player tryouts in 2019 – Joe Cremo, Jonathan Kasibabu, Angel Nunez and Ash Yacoubou – made their way onto the Long Island Nets roster at various points during the 2019-20 season, with Kasibabu appearing in 36 of the team’s 42 games during his full season with the team and making 26 starts. Other local player tryout success stories include Ismael Sanogo, a 2018 tryout participant who spent part of the 2019-20 season and the full 2018-19 season with Long Island, and two players from the team’s 2017-18 roster – J.J. Moore, a Brentwood, N.Y., native and 2016 local tryout participant, and Charlie Marquardt, a former Molloy College standout and 2017 local tryout player.
All tryout participants must pre-register online, be eligible to play in the NBA G League and be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to attend. As advised by the CDC, full vaccination means at least 14 days after the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (or other COVID-19 vaccinations recognized by WHO) or at least 14 days after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Each tryout will be limited to the first 75 applicants who submit the $200 non-refundable registration fee, complete the required registration and waiver forms and provide proof of vaccination in advance online. Both tryouts will be closed to the public.
