LONG ISLAND NETS ANNOUNCE ROSTER CHANGES

LONG ISLAND (Nov. 13, 2023) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired center David Muoka from the available player pool. In a related move, forward Kaiser Gates has rejoined Long Island, while the team requested waivers on guard Trey McGowens.

Muoka (6’10”, 235) was drafted with the third overall pick of the 2023 NBA G League Draft by the Capital City Go-Go on Oct. 28 and waived on Nov. 9. Prior to beginning his professional career, Muoka played two collegiate seasons (2021-23) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, appearing in 59 games (20 starts) and averaging 3.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 15.4 minutes per contest. The Hong Kong native played his first two seasons (2019-21) at Lamar University, where he appeared in 57 games (32 starts) and posted averages of 4.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 21.4 minutes per game. Muoka was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in his sophomore season with the Cardinals prior to transferring to UNLV.

Gates (6’7”, 225) signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans on Sept. 30 and appeared in one game for the team on Oct. 30 prior to being waived on Nov. 3. The Atlanta native appeared in 36 regular season games (21 starts) with Long Island across two seasons (2020-21, 2022-23) and posted averages of 12.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.5 minutes per game. He also appeared in 16 NBA G League Showcase Cup games (seven starts) with the LI Nets during the 2022-23 season and recorded averages of 9.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 24.2 minutes per game. In 122 career NBA G League regular season games (66 starts) over four seasons with Long Island, Maine (2019-20) and Windy City (2018-19), Gates holds averages of 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27.5 minutes per game.

McGowens was last acquired by Long Island from the available player pool on Jan. 25, 2023, and appeared in 23 regular season games for the LI Nets during the 2022-23 season, averaging 3.7 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 10.3 minutes per game.
