LONG ISLAND NETS ACQUIRE RETURNING PLAYER RIGHTS TO KEIFER SYKES

LONG ISLAND (Sept. 18, 2023) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired the returning player rights to guard Keifer Sykes from the Motor City Cruise in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA G League Draft. The trade is not subject to a physical.
Sykes (5’11”, 167), has appeared in 32 NBA games (11 starts) across one season (2021-22) with Indiana, averaging 5.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists in 17.7 minutes per contest while also appearing in 13 Showcase Cup games for Fort Wayne in the same season, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. Most recently, he spent the 2022-23 season with Motor City, averaging 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 31.9 minutes per contest across 29 regular season games (27 starts) in addition to appearing in four Showcase Cup contests for the Cruise, averaging 11.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 22.8 minutes per game. The 29-year-old also appeared in 50 games (37 starts) for Austin during the 2015-16 season and recorded averages of 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 31.0 minutes per game. Additionally, Sykes has played five seasons (2016-21) internationally in Australia, China, Italy, Greece, Korea and Turkey. Most recently, the Chicago native spent the 2020-21 season overseas with Panathinaikos B.C., a Greek professional basketball team part of Panathinaikos A.O., where he appeared in one game and averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 19.9 minutes across one game. Prior to beginning his professional career, Sykes played four collegiate seasons (2011-15) at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, averaging 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists in 26.3 minutes per game across 127 games (125 starts). He was named Horizon League Player of the Year during his final season with Green Bay.
