Long Island Nets Acquire Phil Cofer

LONG ISLAND (Feb. 12, 2020) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired forward Phil Cofer from the available player pool to replace guard/forward Justin Anderson while he plays for USA Basketball in the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying Games.

Cofer (6’8”, 230) appeared in 23 games for the College Park Skyhawks this season, averaging 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game prior to being waived on Feb. 7. He was originally acquired by College Park as a local tryout player.

Prior to starting his NBA G League career, Cofer played five seasons (2014-19) at Florida State University, where he appeared in 133 career games (84 starts) and averaged 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per contest. In his redshirt senior season (2018-19), Cofer appeared in 22 games (19 starts) and recorded averages of 7.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per game while helping lead the Seminoles to a 29-win season, the best in program history. The Atlanta native previously appeared in 35 games (all starts) as a true senior (2017-18), averaging a career-high 12.8 points (first on the team) and 5.1 rebounds (second on the team) in 29.3 minutes per contest. He was also named to the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team after helping lead Florida State to the Elite Eight in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
