LONG ISLAND (Oct. 25, 2022) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, have acquired center Kavion Pippen from the available player pool. In a related move, Long Island has requested waivers on forward Alan Griffin.
Pippen (6’10”, 245) appeared in 27 games during one season (2019-20) with the Austin Spurs of the NBA G League, recording averages of 7.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per game. Most recently, he spent the 2021-22 season overseas with Real Valladolid Baloncesto of the LEB Gold in Spain, where he averaged 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per contest over 36 games (28 starts). Prior to his professional career, Pippen spent two seasons (2017-19) at Southern Illinois, appearing in 65 games (63 starts) and averaging 12.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 blocks in 25.8 minutes per game. Pippen received All-MVC Third Team and MVC All-Defensive Team honors during his final season with the Salukis.
Griffin was selected by Long Island with the 77th overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NBA G League Draft.
