Long Island Nets Acquire Three Players in 2017 NBA G League Draft

LONG ISLAND (October 21, 2017) – The Long Island Nets, the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, acquired three players in today’s 2017 NBA G League Draft and executed a trade involving their fourth and final draft pick of the day.

With the fourth overall pick in the first round, Long Island selected forward Thomas Wimbush. The Lorain, Ohio, native enjoyed a standout four-year career at Division II Fairmont State University in West Virginia, helping lead the Fighting Falcons to the Division II National Championship game as a senior. Wimbush garnered All-Mountain East Conference First Team honors as a senior, recording averages of 15.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 28.1 minutes per game through 37 contests.

With the third pick in the second round (originally acquired from the Lakeland Magic), the LI Nets selected guard Devin Carter. As a senior at Arkansas State, Carter registered averages of 16.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game through 32 games. Long Island used the fourth pick of the second round to select guard Buay Tuach. In 29 games as a senior at Loyola Marymount, Tuach averaged 11.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals in 28.1 minutes per contest.

Long Island’s third and final selection of the second round, guard Aaron Best, was traded to Raptors 905 in exchange for the returning player rights to guard Shannon Scott. Scott spent the 2015-16 season with Raptors 905, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.6 steals in 29.0 minutes per game in 48 games (37 starts). This past season, the 24-year-old Scott spent time with Doxa Lefkadas B.C. of the Greek Basket League.

Long Island previously traded away its third and fourth round selections in this year’s draft.
